Tailored webinar experience: Teach your first coding lesson

This is an online training course for a group of teachers or instructors.
It provides a teacher's introduction and a detailed lesson plan for teaching a Coding Class for beginners.

One payment of ZAR 1,900 gives you access to up to 30 teachers or instructors. After the enrollment you will be asked to provide the contact information of the participating people so that we can invite them to the live webinars.

Coding is easy and fun - and so is teaching it.

This course gives you access to a sample Coding Class for beginners. The class showcases what a typical lesson by Code School Finland looks like. As a teacher, it gives you an idea of how Code School Finland materials support your instruction during class. 

The Coding Class content suits beginner-level teachers who have no or little previous coding experience.
The class content suit - likewise - beginner-level students with only a little or no previous coding experience. 

The Coding Class requires 45-60 minutes of time. The structure is: 
STEP 1: DRAW AND GUESS
An unplugged exercise helps to warm-up your students' computational thinking "muscles".
STEP 2: PRACTISE
Students delve into an inquiry task to try things out themselves. 
STEP 3: EXPLORE AND CREATE
Students start creating their own programs. 
STEP 4: WRAP UP - WHAT DID WE LEARN? 
Adopt an easy, fast and fun way for students to reflect their learning.  

The coding activities during this Coding Class are done in an online visual programming environment called
Scratch. It is world's most often used and widely recognized free environment for learning and teaching coding for beginners. 

Goals

  1. Practise inquiry and project- based work.
  2. Learn to create scripts with  simple commands.
  3. Learn about geometry. 
  4. Try the Scratch programming environment

For whom?

Teachers and instructors wanting to do a beginner's Coding Class for 3rd graders and up.

What's needed?

  1. Pens and grid paper
  2. A tablet or a PC (2-3 students can share one)
  3. At least 45 minutes of time (but you can continue with the projects for much longer than that).
